Stuck in a Rut? 3 Ways to Break Free

Last weekend, I hit one of those low moments. You know the kind—the ones where everything seems to be going wrong, and all I wanted to do was sulk and dwell on the things that didn’t go according to my plan—not God’s. And boy!, did I feel miserable!

But even in that rut, I knew I had to push myself to keep going. I had some catching up to do on my Positive Intelligence learning, and I knew I couldn’t let myself off the hook—especially with my group holding me accountable.

As I listened to the course audio, I was reminded of something incredibly powerful: the ability to choose how we respond to life’s challenges.

The Sage Perspective

Did you know that every situation we face can be turned into a gift or an opportunity? This is what’s known as the “Sage Perspective”—a mindset that can change the way we experience life’s ups and downs.

I’ve been exploring this concept through a Positive Intelligence course with Coach Shirzad Chamine, and I’ve had the pleasure of doing so alongside some truly inspiring women—Kerri, Gwen, and Toyin. It’s been such a transformative journey, not only because of the accountability but because of the safe space we’ve created together. A space where we can be completely honest, vulnerable, and supportive of each other.

It’s been a beautiful reminder of how powerful it is when women support women.

Do you have a space like this in your life?

The Three Choices We Face

One of the biggest takeaways from my learning this week was a simple but profound reminder: when we face life’s everyday challenges, we always have three choices:

  1. Accept – Let go of the negative emotions and embrace peace. This doesn’t mean giving up or resigning yourself to a situation—it’s a conscious decision to release those heavy feelings, even if only temporarily.
  2. Convert – Turn the challenge into a gift. Shift your perspective by approaching the situation with curiosity, creativity, empathy, and satisfaction. Ask yourself: What hidden gift might this challenge offer me?
  3. Stay Stuck – Choose not to accept or convert, and continue feeling weighed down by negativity. It’s the option where we feel stuck and unable to move forward.

Converting challenges into opportunities takes effort and intentionality. It’s not always easy, but it’s always worth it. That’s why it’s important to prioritize—deciding what you’re ready to accept and what you want to convert.

What Will You Choose?

As you go through life, I encourage you to reflect on your current challenges. Which option will you choose? Will you accept, convert, or stay stuck?

Remember, the power to choose is always in your hands, and it can truly transform your life.
