The Sum of It All: Motherhood, Marriage, Work & Faith

Sometimes, life lessons come from different corners at once.

So in this post, I’m pulling together thoughts from four areas that matter deeply to me: career, relationships, motherhood, and mentorship.

This isn’t coming from theory; it’s from something I recently challenged myself to do—to start truly living.

In my last newsletter, I challenged my subscribers to live (read here if you missed it), and I said I would do the same.

Little did I know that the heavens were already opened to help me realise my desire.

One of the things I committed to doing was exploring my part of the world more. So, I decided to start by listing places I wanted to visit and dates that would align with the kids’ mid-term breaks and holidays.

I did some light research, with assistance from AI, to check for tourist attractions, scenic views, walking trails, ticket prices, and possible costs for food, accommodation, and transport. By the time I was done, I had a plan that would give me some days away each month, starting after Easter.

Like many things I have embarked on, I didn’t have a bankload of cash to rely on, but that didn’t stop my planning and preparation. I wandered through Booking.com and the Airbnb app for some days, feeding my eyes on the best accommodation in the proposed cities, and then God started showing me how much He loved me, and wanted me to live like one who was graced to thrive on earth.

The first trip I planned was a getaway for my husband and I, we hadn’t had one in a while.

The second was a getaway with a girlfriend whose company I love, she’s a goal-getter, foodie, and faith-filled mama who can also be a couch potato when she needs to be (the combination I desire — no guilt!).

The next was a weekend away with some women for spiritual strength, and the list continues till summer.

My first surprise of the heavens being invested in my desire to live intentionally occurred when I jokingly mentioned my trip to a work colleague:

“Where to?” he asked.

“York,” I responded.

A few days later, I was called into a room and given a gift of paid-for accommodation for any number of nights I wanted.

It felt surreal… until I stepped into the 5-star hotel with a view facing the best sights in York.

Shortly after, a goddaughter notified me she was coming for the Easter Holiday, the visit covered any worry I would have had about the kids’ care, plus my family was around to allow my hubby and I to take the time away.

It did feel like the angels agreed that I should tick off my list and live as one who has the life of Christ within her, as one who has been freely given all things.

The next was when my friend and I found a deal for premium accommodation for our May trip and quickly closed it down.

Following this was a suggestion from a close family member that we should go family road trip this summer to a city on my list.

…and so, the connection continued, and it all started with a firm decision to LIVE in the light of who the King created me to be.

I know with every assurance that the “best mantra” for me this season and for life is: Live Intentionally!

So, if you are still torn between choosing to live intentionally or chasing goals, here I am sharing my experience of choosing to live and the ways God is aligning all things for good.

On Raising Children

I’m in a phase of life where my girls are teenagers, and my son is loving and learning all it takes to be a gentleman around them.

It’s a phase where we have candid conversations on all subjects (you can list it all!), argue to make our points, tackle the house chores side by side (we live in a city where paying for help is equivalent to the salary of a graduate assistant at the Nigerian bank!), and learn how to pray and trust God for all things, I mean, ALL things.

I am still learning and enjoying each phase while creating as many memories as I can. I’ve documented a lot of my journey through different stages of motherhood in my book. You can get a copy of my book here.

Many of the family-centred activities I wrote about, along with our daily confessions of scripture, are things we still do together with our focus on making our home a place to nurture giants.

On Career

I strongly believe that my work is my worship to God.

So, I bring my best self to all I do, nurturing my projects and team from a place of love. This perspective gives me peace and allows me to deliver on my assignment in the marketplace for God.

The perfect conditions aren’t necessary for the ship to sail. So, you and I don’t need perfect conditions to thrive at work, just be where the Master wants you to be, and be faithful while at it.

On Relationships

I enjoy deep conversations with my husband and a few friends whom I now call sisters. On all sides, our relationships have grown in depth and grace. Even though my circle of friends has not expanded much, I am deliberately networking more (how else will I show Christ’s love to the world ) and participating in things of interest, including volunteering.

But still, I will always choose cosying up on my sofa and watching a good movie. Yet, I know I must make connections.

If you want to grow your network like me, connect with me on LinkedIn.

On Mentorship

I have this sweet, accomplished woman who believes in me even when I don’t. She allows me the space to grow at my own pace without pressure, even when she knows my biggest dream.

It’s just comforting to have a big sister hold my hand through career, marriage, faith, and family, just by sharing her life experiences and gently trying to open doors when she senses I’m ready.

On Being a Mentor

I am pouring into and mentoring young women, and it is truly fulfilling to be able to strengthen another as they pass through phases of life I have gone through.

The first quarter of 2025 and April especially have been beautiful for me.

How has it been for you?

My word for you today is Thrive! Because you were created to be more!

If you need guidance on a phase of life, I have walked through a new marriage, early motherhood, career, faith, or even relocating to another country. Hit reply and drop me an email.
