The Power of Personal Retreat

For a very long time, I have longed for a personal retreat – to relax, think and dream afresh!

But like always, I had a thousand reasons why I could not steal away…

Have you desired some days off from the demands of the roles you take on or a break from serving everyone but yourself? A trip to some faraway luxurious abode, served and pampered by beautiful beings? Or maybe just a time to shut down and focus on yourself, your needs, visions, and God?

My Retreat Experience

I had a taste of the iceberg a few weeks ago when I was gifted a fully sponsored weekend off for a women’s conference, and it was an incredible experience. The retreat was exceptional from start to finish. The spacious, beautiful, and cosy lounging areas, the stunning environment surrounded by greenery and nature, a peaceful river nearby, a five-star buffet, and abundant coffee and drinks made it a weekend to remember. Not to mention the facials, swimming, and the many beautiful women I met along the way.

It was a time to reconnect with God and myself. My thoughts and attention were focused solely on God and me. I joined other women in worship, journaled my gratitude, and reflected on my life’s journey. When I was done, Oh dear, I realised that I had so much to be grateful for! I felt clarity, peace, and calm like never before. At some point, I disconnected from all online distractions and focused on connecting with people, nature, and God.

The Need to Recharge

Life can sometimes be a beehive of activities, where we constantly have the urge to tick off more boxes on our list of urgent and important. We all need that time to disconnect and recharge. A weekend away, a personal retreat for you, can make all the difference.

Here are some resolutions I made after my retreat, and I believe you might benefit from them, too:

  1. Schedule Regular Retreats: To plan my retreat at least twice a year. You can adopt once a quarter if your schedule allows. Make that time a priority.
  2. Pamper Yourself: To frequently treat myself to activities that bring me joy and relaxation, like facials, spa treatments, saunas, swimming, or whatever gives your soul calm and rejuvenates your body and mind.
  3. Reflect and Meditate: I love to write, but I am now more intentional about spending time journaling my gratitude, reflection, and meditation. These moments can provide profound insights and peace.

Your dreams, visions, and aspirations will only be realised if your body and mind function optimally. Making time for yourself allows your mind and body to recharge, which is essential for success in all your roles.
